About the Young Minds Meditate Series @ Patch

In today's fast-paced and technology-driven world, mindfulness has become increasingly important for young people. It offers a powerful tool to navigate the challenges and demands they face daily. Mindfulness cultivates self-awareness, emotional regulation, and resilience, empowering young individuals to manage stress, enhance focus, and develop healthier relationships with themselves and others. By fostering a present-moment awareness and non-judgmental attitude, mindfulness equips young people with valuable skills to navigate the complexities of life, nurture their mental well-being, and thrive in a constantly evolving society.

Nature-based mindfulness provides young people with a powerful opportunity to reconnect with the natural world, fostering a sense of wonder, grounding, and serenity as they cultivate mindfulness skills amidst the beauty and tranquility of nature.

The Young Minds Meditate Program

Learn the Basics: Get an introduction to mindfulness for all ages & what happens to our minds and bodies when we are stressed. Explore how to use the five senses as grounding tools and how to P.A.W.S (Pay Attention With Your Senses) as a stress-reduction technique.

Create Pockets to Pause : Create daily intentional moments of mindfulness through a “Pocket to Pause & Pocket of Peace” practice. Mindful pauses help slow the speed of today's seeming need to rush.

Learn Emotional Check-in Tools: Where are you? This GPS practice will help youth locate where the mind & body are, as well as identify the feelings and the physical location of where they are being felt. This element of social-emotional learning creates greater emotional attunement and fluency.

Create a "Calming Jar": A fun, interactive "art project" portion of the training, kids keep the Calming Jar, using it as a visual cue to help reset the breath and calm oneself in moments of distress.

Learn to "Be the Rock": A powerful practice to ground kids, to help them feel safe & strong, protected & respected. Using a rock as the anchor, its been named "a favorite" by Suzanne's youthful students to help them focus.

The Wise Owl & The Barking Dog: Few of us understand the physiology of overwhelm, yet learning more about how our bodies receive, experience & express stress can help us all manage it better. The Wise Owl is the most evolved part of the human brain (the prefrontal cortex) and the Barking Dog our oldest, reptilian brain center (the amygdala). This lesson supports the tools not to "flip your lid" when emotions want to rule the day.
